Logo Foundation - Sophie Mitchell
Sophie Mitchell...a graphic designer that has submitted a few pieces of her work to ShylosWorld to share with the rest of the design community. In this quick over look we will take a peak at a couple of her design ideas and displays.
Firstly kicking this insight off this is a logo design that has been designed and portrayed for the retail industry. The first thing that stands out about this logo work of the intricate illustration work put into the main letter "S" in the design. This adds more focus on this part of the design and pulls it away from the rest of the typography work. For the rest of the text included in the image simple back to basics typography fonts have been applied. But due to the presents of the primary letter S that is seen i think this was a smart choice as any other efforts to add to the text work be over crowding for the image and ruin the overall persona of the design.
Another logo design from the graphic designer Sophie Mitchell, as you can see from her style of work she sticks to a simplistic, clean and modern style to work this. When designing logos this is a good style to operate in as i have seen many logos fall apart due to over crowding in the image. The color scheme that has been picked for this logo is another factor that i am fond of. They give a gentle blend and contrast each other enough to be noticed with out clashing them together in a spectrum collision (this is the result of keeping the two colors from the same tone family)
Overall some good logo work with use of strong design factors. I defiantly hope to see more from Sophie on ShylosWorld soon.

Artist Drop - James Flynn
James Flynn an artist that mostly focuses his time on fine art is the first of his kind to feature on ShylosWorld. He is a totally self taught artist that has been in circulation for a few years now, and this reflects in this work as it truly is something special. He offers a sketchy style to his work and mostly works in the colour schemes of back and white. The fact that through his fine art he focuses on portrait style designs means that he is able to show off his flair and perception in the human figure. This is shown through this choice of lighting and shading in the images. The use of unfinished sketch lines throughout the paintings really give it a raw feel and is one of the main factors that make this artist stand out from the crowd.

Starting off with the first painting from this artist is the image to the left hand side. The reason that this image stands out stands out in this portfolio is the depth that is seen in the skin tone and eyes. Even this the use of only black and white colors the lighting a shadows still pops out. This can also be seen down the side of the neck in the image as the lighting, (clearing coming from the right hand side) this adds a nice finish to the artwork and really demonstrates the time and effort that has gone into this piece.
Moving on through the portfolio, another image that really shouts out to the audience is this one. The profile angled view of the face is a tricky position to paint in as the lighting and the shadows of the features and hair line have to be shown through this. One factor that stands out through all this artists work is the attention to detail that is seen. Right down to the shadows that are created in the details on the fingers and hands...Impressive. The background texture that is used this these images is another thing that is a consistent factor seen throughout the work of James Flynn. It adds a classy atmosphere to the art work and fits in well with the sections of the art work that has been left to the audiences imagination.
Finishing of this sneak peak of James Flynn's portfolio is this face on portrait image. Keeping the same style as seen before in his artwork James has introduced color into this piece. The colour red is the chosen tone and i think it works brilliantly with the original tones and color scheme of the painting. Out of all the images that i have seen in this portfolio, this is the one that demonstrates the raw style of this artists at his best.

Artist Drop - Jim Adams
One of the top Illustrators that
has passed through the HTML gates of ShylosWorld. Jim Adams is a freelance
Illustrator that has the skill and ability to work in many different
forms of media ranging from traditional methods such as hand created
water coloured painting to Photoshop
created digital graphics. So let have a look into some of this work.
Starting off this
portfolio review is one of my personal favorites, the reason that i like
this piece is because of the fact that it displays the same methods and feel to
it that a typography based design would also have. This is due to the way that
it has been created by creating many different vector images that fall under
the same genre and then arranging them together to create a larger image that
reflects the genre of the images...Impressive. I love this style of work as i
think that it adds character to the design and gives
the audience more to look at and take in than a image that is not
broken down using this method. The colour scheme is another factor that i think
stands out to me, the use of the white foreground colour against the baby blue
background really makes the individual parts of the design pop out
off to screen, and this combined with the simplistic style of the vector images
come together to make a strong piece of design work.
Moving onto another strong piece
of work from this portfolio. The image on the right also displays a strong
combination of design work and clever pre-planning to create an overall effect.
The first impression that this gives off is the dark and ghostly atmosphere,
this is mostly generated in my opinion by the figure of the man shown
to the left hand side. This is a result of clever opacity work and masked
layers, a tricky mix of processes as the slightest twitch has
the potential to ruin the outcome of this factor in the design. Another
process that i like about this piece of work is the texture that has been given
to the background. I think this adds the final piece that this image needed
before it was ready to be unleashed, it fits the genre of the design well and
gives the audience something extra to ponder over without pushing in
to their faces. The gentle lens flair is another good choice for this piece as
it gives the mystery of the shadow a purpose and maybe even
a destination? Who knows, that's the beauty and connotation of this
image. One thing that i will say though is that i have seen many, many, many
designs ruined by the use of a lens flair. But its safe to say, that this is
not one of them.
I for one, am a great admirer of
vector artists. The reason for this is because after using illustration
software for my own personal design work, i have grown to understand the time
and skill that goes into creating pieces that are of this caliber. The clarity
of the colors created in this vector is the main factor that makes it stand out
to the audience. The level of detail in the work is also something for Jim to
be proud of, right down from the leaves of the tree branches to the shading of
the clouds in the sky to represent direction of lighting. The use of shading on
the grass hills show good attention to detail, and also with the shading in the
grass in the foreground of the design. Over all, a very strong collection of
work.
